First Timer Here
Hi, I'm new to this site, I'm looking to become an ABA service provider and finish school. I've been working with Autisic individuals for 5 years and looking to expand my career. Hopefully I can help others with some things I've learned over the years.
Hi All .
This is my first post here , though ive been around the autistic community quite a while( makes me feel rather old) . (eg ASAN_Aust, other forums ) .
So , Im now in my fifties and an "elder" in the local autistic community, based around the Newcastle -Hunter Valley and Sydney areas . We run network forums for ourselves , ( ALL autistic people )and have one on one autistic specific community support . Im an ASD consultant with Aut Support , and man ( WOman ?) a phone counselling and helpline for autistic people , which has been going for around seven years. .
Hi ASD pro.
Your ppost attracted my attention since i cant ever recall any ASD person ever choosing ABA as a career .
Im intrigued as to the reasons ( which Im sure you must have ) for choosing a behaviourist approach over say , eg ; relationship based approaches used with autistic children . Thanks for anything to enlighten me . Regards, Leigh
Welcome to AWN! I'm 48, and always happy to meet others who are older, and who also discovered they were on the spectrum later in life. It seems like we have a lot of the same coping skills. I still fight to dismiss my own ableist rhetoric which was ingrained within me due to my differences. Glad to see you here at the forum!
