Hi all, I'm new here
Mon, 9/26/2011 - 7:05pm GMT
The internet was a blessing for me - I can communicate freely online. I don't have to look anyone in the eye, and I'm not as shy. I always knew I was different, and now I know why.
I'm relieved, happy and sad all at the same time to finally understand.
- Asperger's (self-diagnosed) female at 45yrs old.

Hi, and welcome to AWN. I'm pretty good with eye contact especially once I know someone.
I have an ASD diagnosis. If I may ask, what do you mean by self diagnosed? Is Asperger's somethig you identify with, and you are unable to seek a formal diagnosis?
I ask, because I have met some who post here at the forum who self identify as ASD, and their reasons for not seeking formal dx is complicated. It tends to vary along the lines relating to employment concerns, insurance difficulties, assessment costs, custody fears, stigma, etc. (of course, feel free not to answer, I am not intending to pry or be nosy).
