Learning from TV shows

This is an observation.  I watch a number of shows regularly--NCIS, Burn Notice, sometime Covert Affairs.  I watch the characters carefully, and I learn social skills from them.  I make a point of watching, say, how the NCIS team spars with suspects in interrogation.  I watch shows where law enforcement people have to know how to read suspects and criminals.  I didn't know I had Asperger's in my twenties and thirties, but I knew I was terrible at picking up unspoken social cues and terrible at reading people.  So I worked at teaching myself those skills, and one thing I've found useful is watching TV, and also when I go to the movies, I do the same thing.  I observe the characters and the action.  I suggest it for learning to read people.

I have done the same thing. This is why I think that aspies make the best actors in a way because we have had to do it our whole life and become experts at it in a way. I think a lot of people on the spectrum actually have talents in acting, art, music and dance that may go undeveloped or unnoticed. Seems like the arts could really be an area that some people in the spectrum could go, maybe especially for the women. There is all sorts of emphasis on computer jobs or repetitive jobs and I don't think those are the best kind of jobs for me. I wonder if anyone else has noticed how creative those on the spectrum can be?
